At the word “Courchevel” eyes begin to shine with delight. This ski resort lies in the Three Valleys area, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park. There is never a dull moment here, in summer or winter. The resort has won international recognition thanks to the largest ski area in the world, luxurious hotels, and the ease of getting around its territory. Developed infrastructure, a unique hotel complex, the highest level of service – all this is Courchevel.
Interesting facts about the Courchevel resort
Courchevel consists of five ski stations at different altitudes: Saint-Bon (1100 metres above sea level), Le Praz (1300), Courchevel Village (1550), Courchevel Moriond (1650) and Courchevel 1850 – the very resort that Russian oligarchs have taken over. Incidentally, from here you can ski directly to the resorts of Méribel and Val Thorens.
Thanks to the founding in the early 1970s of the Foundation for International Cultural Events in the Mountains (FACIM), Courchevel began to attract musicians and show-business figures. Gradually it turned from a resort for everyone into a holiday spot for the bohemian crowd and the elite.
In Courchevel children learn to ski from the age of 18 months. Specially trained instructors from the Children’s Village of Courchevel 1850 teach little ones the basic rules of skiing and gliding.
Courchevel became the first ski resort in the world to introduce the Magestick system on its lifts. Children are given special magnetised vests that let them use the lifts safely on the way up to the mountain peaks and protect their backs from injury while skiing.
It is no accident that the powerful of this world chose Courchevel for their winter holidays. It lies in the centre of the largest ski area in the world, with 600 kilometres of runs and 185 lifts, linking eight resorts. The best known of them, besides Courchevel, are Méribel, Val Thorens and Les Menuires. You can buy a separate ski pass for Courchevel, valid for the Courchevel and La Tania ski area, or one for the whole valley. In the 2026/27 season a 6-day 3 Vallées ski pass costs 421 euros. This is more expensive than at many European resorts, but the Three Valleys really do offer great opportunities.
Many hotels offer a special "spécial famille" service, which includes early breakfast for children, adjoining rooms for children and parents, play areas and a professional childminder. There is everything here to make the holiday unforgettable for every member of the family!
Visit the resort on foot or on snowshoes if you enjoy sports walking, from beginners to professionals. There are also 9 snowshoe routes that will take you to the most remote corners of the Courchevel forests. And those who want to head into the mountains can use the services of accompanying guides.
