How to Get to Courchevel

Courchevel is in the French Alps, in the Savoie department, and the resort has no large airport of its own. The usual route is a flight to Geneva, Lyon or Chambéry, then 1.5–2.5 hours by road. Another option is a train to Moûtiers station at the foot of the resort and the last 25 km on a mountain road.

By air: which airport to choose

  • Chambéry: the nearest airport, about 105 km and 1 h 40 min from Courchevel. In winter it mostly handles seasonal charters, with few flights.
  • Geneva: about 150 km and 2 h 15 min. The most convenient choice for the range of flights, including direct ones and those with one connection.
  • Lyon Saint-Exupéry: about 185 km and 2 h 30 min. A good option if a flight to Lyon is more convenient or cheaper.

Journey times are given without traffic. On Saturdays in the season, when guests change over in the Tarentaise valley, the N90 is busy and the trip can take 1–2 hours longer.

Courchevel itself has an Altiport at about 2000 metres. It only takes small private planes and helicopters, and there are no scheduled flights.

By train to Moûtiers

The nearest railway station is called Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains. In the winter season direct high-speed TGV trains run here from Paris, and there are trains with a change from Lyon and Chambéry. From the station to Courchevel 1850 it is about 25 km and 40 minutes by car. A driver can meet you on the platform with a name sign.

By car

From Geneva the road follows the A41 motorway past Annecy, and from Lyon the A43 via Chambéry. Both routes meet at Albertville, and from there the N90 runs along the Tarentaise valley to Moûtiers, where the climb to the villages of Courchevel begins. It is about 650 km from Paris to the resort.

If you rent a car, keep in mind that under French rules winter tyres or chains are required in the mountains in winter, and parking in Courchevel 1850 is paid and often full in the season.

Transfer with a driver

A transfer spares you the search for parking, chains and mountain hairpins after your flight. The driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, tracks your flight and takes you to the door of your hotel or chalet. The price is fixed at booking and is per car, not per passenger:

Which village you need

Courchevel consists of several villages at different altitudes: Courchevel 1850, Courchevel Moriond (1650), Courchevel Village (1550), Le Praz (1300), La Tania and Saint-Bon. Give the village and the hotel name when you book: it is up to 20 minutes between them on winding roads.
